MONTJANE LOSES TO MARJOLEIN BUIS IN STRAIGHT SETS AT NEC MASTERS

South African Wheelchair Tennis ace Kgothatso Montjane lost her second round-robin group match to Marjolein Buis from the Netherlands in straight sets at the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters during Thursday’s second day of play in Lake Nona, Orlando.

Buis dominated the 32-year-old Montjane from first to last in their season-ending singles championships meeting, the Dutch world number 7 Buis running out a comfortable 6-0, 6-4 in both player’s second match of the round robin stage.

Buis capitalized on a fine first set against Wimbledon semi-finalist Montjane to advance to the semi-final round from Pool B.

Montjane, who finished in 6th place last season, is going to need to find her rhythm and range again in her last group match on Friday against Japanese world number 2 Yui Kamiji. The South African has won only four matches against the Japanese who leads 19-4 in their head-to-head series.

In the quads event, Luca Sithole who fell to American world number 1 David Wagner on Wednesday in his opening match will go up against Andy Lapthorne from Britain on Friday to complete Pool A.

Lapthorne impressed on Thursday defeating Wagner in a two sets thriller. After a slow start Lapthorne, put together four games in a row to lead 4-2 and maintained that cushion to see out the opening set before gathering further momentum to close out a 64 61 victory against ten ten NEC Masters Champion Wagner.
